How One Organization Willed Me into an Engaged Volunteer?

You might be familiar with the term “willing volunteer” – someone who is only nominally committed to their work, but they help out because they want to. In today’s world, you don’t have to wait for someone to approach you and ask if you’re interested in volunteering – these days, more and more organizations are taking advantage of AI-powered software for recruitment purposes. This online NGO volunteer was able to transform one willing volunteer into a truly grateful volunteer in just six months!

How I was transformed into an engaged volunteer?

I have always been a volunteer. I think it’s in my blood. I grew up going to soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other organizations that needed volunteers.

But until recently, I wasn’t very engaged in volunteering. I would show up to events but rarely do anything else besides stand around and talk to people. That all changed when I started working at a local animal shelter.

The shelter is a non-profit organization that takes in animals that have been abandoned or have been placed in shelters by the courts because their owners can’t care for them anymore. The animals come from all over the city and county and there is always a lot of work to be done.

I was assigned to be the lead dog walker for our shelter and my job was to walk the dogs every day while they were open for adoption. It was a great opportunity to see how much work goes into running an animal shelter and it also gave me a chance to get to know the dogs better.

What led to this situation?

I was never one for virtual volunteering India. I found the process overwhelming and I wasn’t always sure what I could do to make a difference. But, then I encountered an organization that changed my mind. Now, I’m more engaged than ever before and I’m determined to spread the word about this amazing organization.

What makes for volunteer engagement?

If you’re looking for an answer to this question, you’re in luck. Numerous organizations have weighed in on the matter and compiled their findings into a helpful infographic.

According to the infographic, Some key factors make for successful volunteer engagement:

Involvement: Volunteers need to feel like they’re part of a team and be engaged in the organization’s mission.

Meaningful work: Volunteers should be doing something that has impact and significance.

Connection to the community: Volunteers need to feel like they’re making a difference and contributing to something larger than themselves.

Growth opportunities: Volunteers should be able to develop their skills and contribute new knowledge.

What are the main motivators for volunteers?

Motivators for volunteers can differ depending on the individual, but there are some common reasons why people choose to volunteer. Some motivations may include feeling a sense of altruism, wanting to help others, wanting to learn new skills, or wanting to make a difference in the world. It can be difficult to pinpoint one specific reason why someone chooses to volunteer, as it is often a mix of different things. However, knowing the main motivators can help organizations better target their recruitment efforts and ensure that their volunteers feel engaged and motivated.

Experiences from other volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to get out of the house and make some positive changes in the world. There are so many great organizations out there that need help, and it’s a great way to meet new people and have some fun.  Here are a few experiences from other volunteers:

-One woman volunteered with an organization that helps children living in poverty. The charity offers educational opportunities for those children on a daily basis. She said that the experience was rewarding because she was able to see firsthand how the program impacts the lives of children.

-Another woman volunteered for an organization that helps low-income families promote healthy eating habits for their children. She said that she enjoyed learning about different programs and helping to distribute food to families in need.

-A man volunteered with a charity that assists refugees and immigrants. He said that he enjoyed working with people who were facing significant challenges.
